Our Data Sources
OpenAQ
We use the OpenAQ platform, which aggregates real-time air quality data from thousands of government monitoring stations worldwide, including the EPA's Air Quality System (AQS).
EPA Standards
All AQI calculations follow the EPA's official Air Quality Index methodology, ensuring accurate and consistent air quality assessments.
Update Frequency
Most monitoring stations update hourly. We cache results for 1 hour to ensure fast response times while maintaining data freshness.
Understanding the Air Quality Index
The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a standardized indicator developed by the EPA to communicate how polluted the air currently is or how polluted it is forecast to become. The AQI focuses on health effects you may experience within a few hours or days after breathing polluted air.
Privacy First
We don't track your location or store your search history. All lookups are anonymous and processed in real-time. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Accuracy & Limitations
Air quality can vary significantly over short distances. Our data represents conditions at the nearest monitoring station, which may be several miles away. For the most accurate assessment, we recommend checking multiple nearby locations.
